Protecting ecosystems through agriculture

Who am I?

I am an environmental social scientist and President of the Australian Institute of Ecological Agriculture [IEA]. My research explores transformation in agricultural systems so that they build resilience, diversity and health in landscapes and communities; rather than retract from them.

This is important work to me because it speaks directly to my family’s custodianship of Moffat Falls, a pastoral property located in the lands of the Dunghutti, Gumbaynggirr and Anaiwan Nations.

My research in regenerative and ecological agricultures

My research explores the philosophy, practice, and relational values of regenerative and ecological agricultures. This includes what opportunities they offer for transforming the way we farm in the face of climate change, biodiversity loss and social unrest.

I like to use action research and participatory methods, so that action can occur simultaneously with the research. I believe those impacted by research should be included in the process of knowledge generation.

Australian Institute of Ecological Agriculture

The Australian Institute of Ecological Agriculture [IEA] is a practitioner-led co-operative, committed to transforming agriculture by encouraging ecological and holistic thinking.

Comprising a diverse membership of both farmers and non-farmers, IEA works with nature and people to take action toward more regenerative agriculture; rebuilding biodiversity, producing healthy food, and supporting stronger communities.
